In the 1950s, Vichai Trading became the first company to import a radio into Thailand, and the company has been on the cutting edge ever since. In 1983 the company was reborn under the direction of Kittisak Sopchokchai—the son of the original founder—as a professional audiovisual systems integrator. Today, his son, Thitikorn Sopchokchai, serves as the company’s director.

“Over our 36 years, Vichai Trading 1983 has evolved from a small start-up company to Thailand’s premiere AV solutions provider. With our unparalleled understanding and expertise in AV technologies, our unmatched experience in professional AV installation across different markets, and our unrivaled customer support and supplier partnerships, Vichai Group has really proven that we are the true specialist and leader in Thailand’s professional AV industry,” Thitikorn said.

Vichai Group Leads the Way in Comprehensive AV Integration in Thailand

Today, Vichai Trading 1983 has 150 employees and is part of a large group of companies all supporting AV integration customers in Thailand and Southeast Asia. The companies are:

  • Vichai Trading (1983) Co., Ltd., a full-service professional AV systems integrator
  • Sound and Communication Co., Ltd., an importer and distributor of professional AV equipment
  • Digitcontrol Co., Ltd., and importer and distributor of professional AV equipment
  • Audio Engineering Service Co., Ltd., a provider of maintenance and after sales service for Vichai Group customers
  • TOA Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a joint venture company that distributes TOA products in Thailand and Laos

Together the Vichai Group—led by Vichai Trading 1983—provides a comprehensive suite of AV products and services to clients in both the public and private sectors, including financial institutions, educational institutions, government offices, and performing arts venues. The company has outfitted small huddle rooms to entire campuses, and everything in between. In the past three years, they have completed more than 600 projects with a total value of almost $50 million.

As a member of the PSNI Global Alliance for just eight months, Vichai Trading has met AV systems integrators from around the world. This has been a real highlight of PSNI membership Thitikorn said, and Vichai Trading 1983 looks forward to collaborating with many of them in the future.

When It Comes to Changing AV, PNSI Members are Ready for Anything

As for the future of the AV industry as a whole, “I would say it will be more IT-centric, with AV technology deeply integrated into the Internet of things (IoT),” Thitikorn said. “This way, the AV devices work seamlessly with all the other devices in the building, and the control is unified.”

As the oldest and longest-operating AV systems integrator in Thailand, Vichai Trading 1983 has seen it all Thitikorn said, and they are more than ready for whatever comes next.
